May I remind you that Hubby and I decided to run away from home (a mere 12 miles away!) on Saturday afternoon and spent the night in downtown Minneapolis? We signed up for the Romance Package at The Depot Hotel and checked in about 3:40 Saturday afternoon. There were some delightful moments this weekend.
-
The bottle of champagne arrived soon after our arrival.
-
My silk pajamas felt sensuous and oh so comfortable as I snuggled next to my husband on the loveseat, sipping champagne.
-
When I changed into my black slacks to go out to dinner, I discovered that I had forgotten my knee-high nylons, and my white cotton socks were going to look really dorky with my black dress shoes. The Depot Hotel saved the day! They had L’eggs Knee Highs in their gift shop and I put them on our room tab.
-
The restaurant, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, on Nicollet Mall was a wonderful choice. We had 6:30 reservations and our table wasn’t ready when we got there. However, the bar was inviting with its deep wood paneling and Tiffany lamps. The Pinot Grigio was very good, so we settled in to have some wine and some nice conversation while we awaited our table.
-
A half hour later, I asked my husband to go see what was taking so long to get our table ready. We were told that it would only be five minutes or so. The host was a little sheepish when he said he had sent an associate in to find us and the associate seated the wrong couple consisting of a “white-bearded gentleman.” My husband was in a good mood and laughed. “There are a lot of us white-bearded gentlemen around, I’m afraid!” Later, at our table, Dale said to me, “The wait was fine. The company was excellent!”
-
The meal was certainly excellent, some of the best seafood I’ve had. We had a thick crabcake for an appetizer, full of big chunks of crab, and some crab-stuffed wontons served with hot Thai chili sauce. For his meal, Dale had parmesan-crusted lemon sole and I had blackened Cajun blue marlin. They were both delicious selections.
-
I turned down an offer to watch some porn movies on Pay Per View in our hotel room later. I was afraid Iwould be merely disappointed in the action that wasn’t worth the price. I was NOT, however, disappointed in the lovemaking that followed by the live participants at no extra charge!
-
The rest I got that night was the best I think I’ve ever had in a hotel room. Usually, the beds are hard, the pillows sparse. This was not the case at all. The bed was comfortable and we had all the big, plump pillows we could possibly use. There was no hotel noise reaching our room to disturb our rest.
-
The breakfast buffet the next morning contained many choice, including freshly prepared waffles and omelettes. Dale had a waffle and I had a ham and cheese omelette that was just perfectly prepared.
We checked out a noon and made a couple of fun stops on our way home. Hopefully, I’ll have a picture to post in a day or two of the gift Dale bought me.
It was hard to return to reality today. I could have used another day or two of that kind of romantic get-away, but… no matter! I’m happy for the enjoyable time we had.

What an awesome weekend. We need one of these…and soon!
