The past week has been a time of frenetic, exhausting activity, both here at home and also at work. I am leaving on a nine-day vacation this morning to Chesapeake Bay. It’s been a long time since I’ve gone away on a trip like this. The last time I’ve been gone for a week was the last trip to San Antonio, Texas in February (?) 2005. I had a housesitter I knew, and February is a slower time for my particular area at work. (Less enteric pathogens going around in the wintertime.)
No one covers my work for me when I’m gone so I spent this week at work trying to do everything I could think of to get details taken care of before I went away. All I can say is that if I worked that hard all the time, I could cut my hours to three days a week! Then at home, my mind has been a jumble and whirlwind of activity, trying to prioritize and organize for this trip and figure out what details are important to orient a new housesitter to. I’ve been so tired by bedtime that I literally have not been able to sleep! I’m going to crash in Baltimore tonight. (Not literally, of course! Heaven forbid!)
The laptop is staying home. I will miss checking my email and reading what my blog friends have to say, but I’m leaving some things at home on this trip, both physically and symbolically.
Check in with you when I get back from this trip on September 7.
